Prof. Dr. Michael Braungart

Professor Dr. Michael Braungart is the founder and scientific director of EPEA (Environmental Protection Encouragement Agency) Internationale Umweltforschung GmbH in Hamburg. Moreover he is co-founder and scientific head of McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC) in Charlottesville, Virginia (USA) and founder and scientific head of the Hamburger Umweltinstitut e.V. (HUI). These institutes share a joint canon of values involving intelligent, aesthetic and eco-effective design.

Braungart studied chemistry and process engineering, inter alia in Konstanz and Darmstadt. In the 1980s he was involved in the environmental organisation Greenpeace where from 1982 on he established the chemistry division. In 1985 he took the lead of the division and did his doctorate at Hannover University at the faculty of chemistry. EPEA was founded in 1987.

Since then he focusses on research and consulting for eco-effective products – meaning products and production processes being thought in a closed loop, being not only harmful for humans and nature, but even useful. He is working with numerous organisations and companies from different sectors.

Currently he has a lectureship at Rotterdam School of Management at Erasmus University Rotterdam as well as a professorship at Leuphana University Lüneburg, Twente University in Enschede and TU Delft. Furthermore, he is Honorary Professor “TUM Distinguished Affiliated Professor” of TU Munich and received the honorary doctorate of Hasselt University Belgium.

Donald Brenninkmeijer

Donald was appointed European Executive Board Member in 2015 with responsibility for driving the future transformation agenda of the brand. Acting as Brand Guardian of the C&A Brand, Donald oversees Customer Insights and Advanced Analytics, New Business Development, Store Concept Evolution, CRM as well as the Sustainability Agenda for C&A Europe. In recent years he has helped to redefine the Customer Value Proposition, Brand and Corporate Identity, New Store Concepts, Omni Channel Roadmap as well as Digital developments.
In addition, Donald is a Member of the C&A Global Sustainability Board.

Donald Brenninkmeijer joined C&A Europe in November 2013 as Director of Merchandising. Subsequently he joined the European Executive Board Member to lead Strategic Transformations from January 2015, reporting into the CEO. In 2016, he became C&A Europe’s Chief Innovation Officer.
Prior to this he has worked as CEO of C&A Mexico for two years since 2011. There he was responsible for implementing a turnaround to become a more customer centric organization and develop the revised value chain for the commercial organization. In addition, he oversaw the activities of the Foundation C&A.

 

Ina Budde

Ina Budde, MA Sustainability in Fashion, arbeitet als Designerin, Dozentin und Unternehmerin im Bereich der nachhaltigen Mode. Als Gründerin von, circular.fashion '- einer nachhaltigen Designberatung - realisiert sie recyclingfähige Produkt- und Systeminnovationen für eine Kreislaufwirtschaft in Textil und Mode.

Mit einer Circular Design Software und Innovation Workshops unterstützt ihr Unternehmen Modemarken vollständig recyclingfähige Kleidungsstücke herzustellen. Diese Produkte werden mit einer circularfashion.ID ausgestattet um Endkunden und Sortierbetriebe über die Rückgabestellen und die Materialzusammensetzung zu informieren mit dem Ziel Textilien in einem geschlossenen Kreislauf wieder zu neuen Fasern zu recyceln und zu regenerieren. Parallel lehrt Ina Sustainable Design an internationalen Universitäten in Hamburg, Kopenhagen, Melbourne und derzeit bei AMD Berlin im Master-Programm Sustainability in Fashion and Creative Industries. Ina ist Gründungsmitglied der weltweiten Open Source Circular Economy Association und aktives Mitglied des Future Fashion Forward e.V. Ihre Arbeit erhielt den DEUTSCHEN BUNDESPREIS ECODESIGN 2017, NEXT ECONOMY AWARD 2015 und wurde von LAUNCH Nordic und dem Accelerator Programm FASHION FOR GOOD Plug'n Play als nachhaltiger Innovator 2014 ausgewählt.

Ina Budde, MA Sustainability in Fashion, works as circular design strategist, lecturer and entrepreneur within sustainable fashion. As founder of ‚circular.fashion’ - a sustainable design consultancy - she realizes recyclable product and system innovations for a circular economy in textiles and fashion. 

Her company offers a Circular Design Software and workshops to enable fashion brands to construct fully recyclable garments. Proven circular clothes are equipped with an identification tag that orchestrates a reverse supply chain network of users, sorting and recycling companies to reuse and regenerate textiles in a closed loop to new fibres again. Parallel Ina lectured Sustainable Design at international universities in Hamburg, Copenhagen, Melbourne and currently at AMD Berlin in the Master Program Sustainability in Fashion and Creative Industries. Ina is founding member of the global Open Source Circular Economy association and active member of the Future Fashion Forward e.V. Her work received the GERMAN FEDERAL AWARD ECODESIGN 2017, NEXT ECONOMY AWARD 2015 and was selected as sustainable innovator 2014 by LAUNCH Nordic and by the accelerator program FASHION FOR GOOD Plug ’n Play.

Sanne van den Dungen

In 2011 Sanne van den Dungen started working at EPEA Nederland B.V. in Eindhoven, after being introduced to the design framework of Cradle to Cradle during her studies of Plant Sciences at the University of Wageningen. Sanne has been inspired by creating positive impact instead of reducing negative impact ever since. Working at EPEA Sanne has had the opportunity to implement the framework of Cradle to Cradle in products and processes with a special interest in textiles. At EPEA Sanne covers a wide array of activities from Cradle to Cradle Certification, Material Health Assessment (ABC-X), material and supply chain research and roadmap sessions. Next to her work at EPEA Sanne is actively involved with an Indian NGO Grameena Vikas Society for Rural Development on establishing regenerative organic cotton grown by smallholder tribal farmers in Vizianagram district, Andrah Pradesh. In addition, Sanne runs the R&D department of a new upcoming jeans label HNST (www.letsbehonest.eu) with the aim to develop a high quality, recyclable jeans made out of post-consumer recycled jeans made in Europe.

 

Angela Elis

Angela Elis is a German Moderator and Coach. She is known from  German TV-channels like ARD,  ZDF and 3sat as well as moderator for events in the field of policits, economy and society. 

Furthermore she is working as a coach ("Systemic Coach" - ISCO Academy & "Business- und Resiliency Coach" - HBT Academy) with a focus on communication, media and presentation.

Timothy Glaz

Die Nachhaltigkeitsinitiativen von dem Mainzer Unternehmen Werner & Mertz und seiner bekannten Ökopionier-Marke Frosch sollen weiteren Fachkreisen und einer größeren Öffentlichkeit noch näher gebracht werden. Dieser Aufgabe widmet sich seit dem 3. Februar 2014 Timothy Glaz als Leiter Corporate Affairs. Glaz engagiert sich zunächst bei dem Open-Innovation-Projekt des Unternehmens – der Recyclat-Initiative – um hier neben der Öffentlichkeitsarbeit auch die Wirtschaftlichkeit des ambitionierten Projekts voranzutreiben. Durch seine langjährige Tätigkeit beim ‚Grünen Punkt‘ verfügt Glaz über exzellente Kenntnisse der Recyclingmärkte.
Die weiteren beruflichen Stationen von Timothy Glaz waren der Handelsverband Deutschland, der Markenverband sowie Nestlé.

Chris Grantham

Chris is circular economy portfolio director at IDEO, where he leads IDEO's consultancy business in the circular economy and works with organizations on systems change and breakthrough innovation. Chris has been closely involved in developing IDEO's partnership with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation to generate innovative solutions and new business models that move us toward a more circular economy (one in which products and materials are continuously reused, never discarded).

His work has involved a number of design-led initiatives with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, including the development of The Circular Design Guide, which was launched at the World Economic Forum in 2017. The aim of the guide is to advance a generation of creatively confident, systems-orientated circular designers, as well as more resilient organizations capable of thriving in a circular economy.

Chris lives in West Sussex in England with his wife, Holly, their thirteen year-old son, Oscar, a large Rhodesian Ridgeback called Rufus and a small Patterdale Terrier called Dudley. He recently discovered the joy of living vicariously through Oscar’s sporting achievements; as heroic as Chris is on the job, he’s a disaster on the field.

Chris is an Aspen Institute First Movers fellow.

 

Philomena John

Philomena John ist die Direktorin von Cotton Blossom (India) Pvt Ltd. 

Cotton Blossom ist eine vertikal integrierte Textilgruppe in Südindien mit zahlreichen Exportpartnern weltweit, unter anderem C&A. Die Philosophie des Unternehmens verfolgt das Ziel eine Win-Win Situation für alle Beteiligten herzustellen. Es werden Biobaumwolle sowie erneuerbare Energie für die Spinnerei,  Färberei und Kleidungsfertigung verwendet.

Cotton Blossom ist unter anderem mit C2C Gold, GOTS Dyeing, GOTS Garments, OEKOTEX 100 Class 1 und vielen weiteren Auszeichnungen zertifiziert. Seit 1997 ist Cotton Blossom stetig gewachsen und besteht derzeit aus 10 Bekleidungsmanufakturen mit einer Kapazität von 3600 Nähmaschinen. 

 

Albin Kälin

Albin Kälin ist Gründer und Geschäftsführer der 2009 gegründeten EPEA Switzerland GmbH. Kälin unterstützt Cradle to Cradle® Projekte in allen Industrien im Alpenraum, insbesondere in der Schweiz und Österreich, und entsprechend seiner Kernkompetenz in der Textilindustrie weltweit.

Von 1981 bis 2004 war er Geschäftsführer der Rohner Textil AG in der Schweiz. Unter seiner Leitung gewinnt das Unternehmen seit den 90er Jahren 19 internationale Auszeichnungen und Designpreise und übernimmt dadurch in ökologischen und ökonomischen Belangen eine weltweit anerkannte Pionierrolle. Auf seine Initiative hin lässt sich das Unternehmen 1996 nach ISO 14001 und EMAS zertifizieren. Zugleich regt er 1993 die Entwicklung der Produktlinie Climatex® und somit der ersten Cradle to Cradle® Produkte weltweit an.

Von 2005 bis Ende 2009 übernimmt er die Geschäftsführung der EPEA Internationale Umweltforschung GmbH in Hamburg. Mit der Unterstützung der Wissenschaftler*innen betreibt er von 2006 an zusätzlich intensiv den Aufbau des Geschäftsfeldes Cradle to Cradle® in den Niederlanden. Er übernimmt auch dort das Mandat des Geschäftsführers der 2008 gegründeten EPEA Nederland GmbH. Mit der Gründung der EPEA Switzerland GmbH gab er die Geschäftsführung von EPEA in Hamburg und den Niederlanden ab.

Albin Kälin is founder and CEO of EPEA Switzerland GmbH, which was founded in 2009. EPEA Switzerland GmbH implements with an experienced management team Cradle to Cradle® projects in all industries in the Alpine Region and the textile indus-try worldwide in cooperation with EPEA Internationale Umweltforschung GmbH in Hamburg.

Kälin worked as CEO at the Rohner Textil AG in Switzerland from 1981 until 2004. In the 90’s under his management the Swiss Rohner Textil AG won 19 international recognitions and design awards. This environmental and economic management approach led him to becoming a world-renowned pioneer. As a result the develop-ment of the first Cradle to Cradle® products worldwide: the product lines Climatex®.

In 2005 Prof. Dr. Michael Braungart appoints Albin Kälin as CEO of the scientific consultancy EPEA Internationale Umweltforschung GmbH in Hamburg, Germany. Since 2006 he supports additional intensive developments of Cradle to Cradle® for the Netherlands. In addition, Albin Kälin functions as CEO at the 2008 established EPEA Nederland until he takes his new position at EPEA Switzerland GmbH.

Rob Kragt

Als Hersteller textiler Bodenbeläge implementiert DESSO das Cradle-to-Cradle Konzept seit 2007 und hat dabei grundlegende Veränderungen umgesetzt und zahlreiche Innovationen entwickelt, die als Vorreiter und inspirierendes Beispiel gelten. Rob Kragt begleitet diesen Prozess von Beginn an und ist als CSR Communication Manager ein wichtiger C2C-Botschafter des Unternehmens. In 2014 wurde DESSO Teil von Tarkett, seitdem schult er die verschiedenen Vertriebsnetzwerke in den Themen Innovation und C2C. Rob Kragt ist ein gefragter Redner auf Veranstaltungen und Kongressen, auch um über die Erfahrungen mit Cradle-to-Cradle bei Tarkett/Desso zu berichten.

 

When Desso, a manufacturer of carpet and carpet tiles, becomes independent in 2007 the choice for real innovation is the start of a remarkable Cradle to Cradle journey. As CSR Communication Manager Rob Kragt becomes an important C2C ambassador of the company and helps the organization to become the front runner and inspiring example it is today. After Desso becomes part of Tarkett in 2014 he trains the different sales networks in Innovation and C2C and is still a frequently asked speaker on events and congresses to share the Desso journey.

Dr. Rossitza Krueger

Rossitza Krueger ist seit Oktober 2010 Textilmanagerin bei Fairtrade International und verantwortlich für die Entwicklung und Umsetzung des Fairtrade Textil Standards sowie das Programm zur Unterstützung für bessere Arbeitsbedingungen in den Produktionsländern. Ihr fachlicher Hintergrund liegt in der Textiltechnik sowie dem Qualitätsmanagement, außerdem hat sie über die letzten 18 Jahre in diversen Textilproduktionen in Bulgarien und Deutschland gearbeitet. Dabei lag ihr Schwerpunkt auf der Einhaltung von Umwelt- und Sozialstandards, der Produktionsorganisation, Wertemanagement, Qualität und Standardisierung, auch als Fachberaterin für Einzelhändlerinnen und Verbraucherinnenorganisationen. Sie leitete Projekte in Indien, Südafrika, China, Bulgarien, Mazedonien, Äthiopien, der Schweiz und der Türkei.

Rossitza Krueger is the Textiles Manager since October 2010 and responsible for the development and implementation of the Fairtrade Textile Standard and the supporting capacity Program for better working conditions in producing countries. She has a textile engineering and quality management background. She has worked in different textile productions in Bulgaria and Germany in the past 18 years with main focus on environmental and social compliance, and also on organization of productions, value management, quality and standardization; also as expert consultant for different retailers, consumer organizations. She has managed projects in India, South Africa, Turkey, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Switzerland, Ethiopia and China among others.

 

Olaf Lies

Olaf Lies wurde am 8. Mai 1967 in Wilhelmshaven geboren. Seit November 2017 ist er Niedersächsischer Minister für Umwelt, Energie, Bauen und Klimaschutz. Zuvor war Olaf Lies fünf Jahre lang Niedersächsischer Minister für Wirtschaft, Arbeit und Verkehr.

Nach seinem Studium zum Elektrotechnik - Ingenieur arbeitete Olaf Lies zunächst als Entwicklungsingenieur u.a. am Institut für technisch wissenschaftliche Innovation an Projekten im Bereich Hard- und Softwareentwicklung. Im Anschluss war er als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter später auch als Dozent an der heutigen Jadehochschule in Wilhelmshaven mit den Schwerpunkten Elektrotechnik, Energietechnik/Regenerative Energien und Informatik tätig. Parallel arbeitete er in einer Reihe von Entwicklungsprojekten insbesondere im Bereich der Automobilindustrie mit und entwickelte und betreute diverse photovoltaisch versorgte Trinkwasserprojekte in Kamerun, Afrika. Zusätzlich seit 1996 war Olaf Lies Personalratsmitglied sowie seit 2003 Personalratsvorsitzender der gesamten Fachhochschule Oldenburg/Ostfriesland/Wilhelmshaven.


Olaf Lies was born on May 8, 1967 in Wilhelmshaven (Germany). Since November 2017 he is Minister for the Environment, Energy, Building and Climate protection in Lower Saxony. Before that he was Minister for Economy, Work and Traffic in Lower Saxony for five years. 

After his degree in electrical enginieering he worked as a developing engineer, i.a. at the Institute for Technical and Scientifical Innovation in the fields of hard- and softwaredevelopment. After that he started working as a scientific employee and later on as lecturer at Jadehochschule Wilhelmshaven with the focus on electrical engineering, renewable energies and informatics. At the same time he was involved in some development projects, especially in the field of the automobile industry and photovoltaic drinking water projects in Kamerun, Africa. 

 

Janez Potocnik

 Dr. Janez Potočnik (born in 1958) graduated from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia (Ph.D. degree obtained in 1993). After a successful career starting in 1989 in Slovenia as a researcher at the Institute of Economic Research, he became Director of the Institute of Macroeconomic Analysis and Development of the Republic of Slovenia (1994). He was appointed Head of Negotiating Team for Accession of Slovenia to the EU (1998). He was also Director of Government Office for European Affairs (2000), Minister Councillor at the Office of the Prime Minister (2001) and Minister responsible for European Affairs (2002). In 2004, he joined the European Commission, first as Shadow Commissioner for Enlargement and then as Commissioner responsible for Science and Research.
In 2010 Dr. Potočnik became Commissioner for Environment. His term ended on November 1st, 2014. In November 2014, he was appointed for a three-year term as a member and Co-Chair of the International Resource Panel which is hosted by United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). In the same month, he was also appointed as a Chairman of The Forum for the Future of Agriculture and RISE Foundation and as a Member of the European Policy Centre's Advisory Council.

Haixiang Qian

Haixiang Qian arbeitet seit 2007 bei EPEA Internationale Umweltforschung GmbH. Sie hat als Projektmanagerin an diverse Cradle to Cradle® Implementierungsprojekten für die Teppich-, Matratzen-, Büromöbel-, Verpackungs-, Bekleidungs-, und Kinderartikelindustrien in Asien, Mitteleuropa gearbeitet.

Darüber hinaus hat sie die Cradle to Cradle® Zertifizierungs- und Trainingsprogramme geleitet. Der Aufbau des EPEA Taiwan Office und die Kooperation mit der Umweltbehörde in Taiwan waren ebenfalls Teil ihrer Arbeit.

Haixiang studierte von 2002 bis 2006 an der Technische Hochschule Bingen am Rhein Umweltschutz und von 1994-1998 Feinchemie an der Universität Shanghai in China.

Haixiang Qian joined the Environmental Protection Encouragement Agency (EPEA) in 2006 and has been working on Cradle to Cradle Implementation projects for the carpet, mattress, office furniture, packaging, apparel, infant & Kids products industries and  waste management companies in Asian, central Europe and US.

She has organized series of Cradle to Cradle training programs for Architects, Designers and project developers in the industry and lead the Cradle to Cradle Certification team at EPEA. Establishing the EPEA Taiwan Office and cooperation with EPA Taiwan were parts of her work as well.

Haixiang studied Environmental Protection at the University of Applied Sciences of Bingen am Rhein in Germany from 2002-2006 and Fine Chemistry at the University of Shanghai in China from 1994-1998. After graduating from the University of Shanghai, she worked in the marketing department at the Shanghai Chemical Reagent Corp., and then in the sales department at a Pharmaceutical Firm in Shanghai.

Inka hat erst praktische landwirtschaftliche Erfahrung in Irland gesammelt, bevor sie in Witzenhausen, Universität Kassel, den ökologischen Landbau studierte (1999-2004). Ihr Interesse an Bio-Qualität und Zertifizierung führte sie auch an die Universität von Perugia (IT), wo sie Einblicke in die Technologien der Lebensmittelverarbeitung erhielt und bei AIAB Umbria als Praktikantin in der Bioinspektion und -zertifizierung arbeitete. Nach ihrem Diplom unterstützte sie die Bio Advocacy- und Lobbyarbeit bei IFOAM International in Bonn und lernte dann die Realitäten europäischer Importeure, Großhändler, Verarbeiter und Bauerngenossenschaften als bei der Handelsagentur für biologische Rohstoffe und verarbeitete Produkte artebio GmbH & Co KG in Lüneburg kennen (2005-2009). Als Projektleiterin hatte sie anschließend eine Position bei EkoConnect e.V. in Dresden inne (2010-2014). Ihre Hauptaufgaben waren die Organisation von Bildungs- und Netzwerkveranstaltungen sowie Sektor- und Marktstudien in und für Mittel- und Osteuropa.

Seit 2014 ist sie Projektmanagerin bei der privaten Beratungsfirma Soil & More. Zu ihren Hauptaufgaben gehören die Entwicklung nachhaltiger Strategien für landwirtschaftlichen Betriebe, insbesondere Kompostierung und natürliche Düngung, die Durchführung von Boden- und Kompostierungsworkshops, sowie Carbon Footprints und Nachhaltigkeitsbewertungen. Sie sieht ihre Berufung in der Integration von Menschen und deren Fähigkeiten und Wissen sowie in der Förderung von nachhaltigen und innovativen Praktiken im internationalen Agrar- und Ernährungssektor.

 

Inka gained practical farming experience in Ireland before studying organic agriculture in Witzenhausen, University of Kassel (1999-2004). Her interest in organic quality and certification led her also to the University of Perugia (IT), where she gained insights in food processing technology and worked as an intern in organic inspection and certification at AIAB Umbria. After her diploma she supported organic advocacy and lobby work with IFOAM International in Bonn, and got to know the realities of European importers, wholesalers, processors and farmer’s cooperatives as an organic trade agent for organic raw materials and processed products with artebio GmbH&Co. KG in Lüneburg (2005-2009). As project manager for she held a leading position at EkoConnect e.V. in Dresden (2010-2014). Her main tasks there were the organization of stakeholder educational and networking events, as well as sector and market studies within projects in Central and Eastern Europe. Since 2014 she is project manager at the private consultancy company Soil & More. Her main tasks include strategy development for general farm sustainability, especially composting and natural fertilization, soil and composting workshops, as well as carbon footprinting and sustainability assessments. She sees her vocation in the integration of people, skills and knowledge as well as in the promotion of sustainable and innovative practices in the international agriculture and food sector.

 

 

Volker Steidel

Volker Steidel, mit Abschluß als Dipl.-Ing. (FH) in Textiltechnik, begann seine berufliche Laufbahn 1987 bei Lauffenmühle GmbH & Co. KG. Von 1995 bis 1999 war er als Marketing-Manager für BASF tätig, anschließend nahm er bei BASF Taiwan die Position des General Managers ein. Ab 2001 war Volker Steidel als Managing Director Asia Pacific für Yorkshire Chemicals aktiv, bevor er 2005 als Geschäftsführer wieder zurück zu Lauffenmühle berufen wurde. Steidel zeichnet neben seiner Funktion als geschäftsführender Gesellschafter bei Lauffenmühle für
die Ressorts Entwicklung und Marketing/Vertrieb verantwortlich.

Prof. Friederike von Wedel-Parlow

Friederike von Wedel-Parlow ist Designerin und Gründerin des Beneficial Design Instituts in Berlin. Nach langjähriger Praxis als Entrepreneurin mit eigenem Modelabel, Kostümbildnerin und als Mitarbeiterin am Lehrstuhl Westwood der UdK Berlin verfolgt sie mit ihrer Arbeit das Ziel, im Design Qualität, Innovation und Ästhetik nachhaltig miteinander zu verbinden. Sie leitete seit 2011 den Masterstudiengang „Sustainability in Fashion“ der Kunsthochschule ESMOD Berlin. Das von ihr maßgeblich mitentwickelte innovative Programm positioniert sich sowohl ökologisch, sozial, wirtschaftlich als auch kulturell wie ästhetisch nachhaltig. In einem erweiterten Verständnis des Designbegriffs wird die Gestaltung weit über die Produkt- und Kollektionsgestaltung hinaus als Gestaltung des gesamten Systems Mode erfahren. Im Sommer 2016 gründet sie das Beneficial Design Institute GmbH als unabhängige, internationale Plattform für das Erforschen und Erproben von ganzheitlichen und interdisziplinären Ansätzen für die Praxis nachhaltiger Mode. In ihrem Forschungs- und Entwicklungsfeld untersucht Prof. von Wedel öko- und ressourceneffektive, kreislauffähige Gestaltungs-, Herstellungs- und Nutzungskonzepte für Mode mit positivem Nutzen.

 

Prof. Dr. Ernst Ulrich von Weizsäcker

Prof. Dr. Ernst Ulrich von Weizsäcker is a German natural scientist and politician (SPD). He is one of the pioneers of sustainable economics and already developed ideas for resource-efficient economic systems in the early 1990s in his Factor 4 Report to the Club of Rome.

After his studies of Physics, he did his doctorate in biology in 1969 and was called to the academic chair of interdisciplinary biology at the University of Essen in 1972. Three years later, he became President of the University of Kassel.

Since 2009, von Weizsäcker is back in Germany as co-president of UNEP’s (United Nations Environment Programme) International Resource Panel. In October 2012 he also became co-president of the Club of Rome.

His book “Factor Five. Transforming the Global Economy through 80% Improvements in Resource Productivity” is the basis of many heated (inter)national debates – is it a possible solution to the climate and energy crisis? It shows how the society can become five times as energy efficient as it is today, mostly through improved technology.

For his involvement in environmental matters, von Weizsäcker was honoured several times, for example with the “Deutscher Umweltpreis” (2008), the “Große Bundesverdienstkreuz” (2009), the Theodor-Heuss-Price (2011) and the Medal for Merit Baden-Wuerttemberg (2012).

 

 

Dr. Monika Griefahn

Monika Griefahn

Dr. Monika Griefahn is a founding member of Greenpeace Germany and was Co-CEO (1980-1983). She organised campaigns against chemical pollution of rivers and the North Sea. From 1984-1990 she was the first female board member of Greenpeace International and responsible for trainings and founding new offices all around the world.

From 1990 to 1998 she was Minister of the Environment in the German state of Lower Saxony. She put her main emphasis on working for renewable energy and phasing out of nuclear power. Very early she fought for the development of production processes and products designed after the Cradle to Cradle concept.

From 1998 to 2009 she was a Member of Parliament in the German Bundestag. Her main responsibilities were in culture and the media, especially new media and foreign cultural policy.

Later on she founded the Institute Media, Environment, Culture (IMUK) – a company with advisory services and educational occupation in the sustainability sector. Since 2012 she is director for environment and community at cruise company AIDA Cruises.

Monika Griefahn is engaged in numerous voluntary commitments – among others as chair and jury member of the Right Livelihood Award Foundation (“Alternative Nobel Prize”) and as chair of Cradle to Cradle e.V.

 

Tim Janßen

Tim Janßen

Tim Janßen is executive director and co-founder of the Cradle to Cradle association. He studied economics at Leuphana University Lüneburg and at the Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg. His focus was on Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Leadership. Stays abroad led him to the Athlone Institute of Technology in Ireland, as well as the University of Vienna within the framework of a DAAD PROMOS scholarship.

Based on the idea of bringing the Cradle to Cradle school of thought and the design concept into the middle of society, Tim Janßen co-founded the C2C association in 2012 and has been its co-executive director ever since. He develops strategies to maximize the impact of the organization on society and actively shapes the growth of this young, ever-growing movement.

Tim Janßen gives numerous lectures at national and international conferences and seminars and passes on his knowledge of Cradle to Cradle to expert audience and interested parties. Furthermore, he teaches as a lecturer at the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW), Leuphana University Lüneburg, HS Mittweida and TU Berlin.

 

Nora Sophie Griefahn

Nora Sophie Griefahn

Nora Sophie Griefahn is member of the executive board and co-founder of the Cradle to Cradle Association Germany. She studied environmental sciences and engineering at the Leuphana University Lüneburg, the Technical University of Berlin, the Goethe University Frankfurt, the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna, as well as the University of Copenhagen. Further studies abroad led her to the USA and France.

For her studies and her commitment, she received numerous awards and scholarships, among them a study scholarship by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation and an award for outstanding honorary commitment by the federal country of Lower Saxony. Moreover, she was selected as one of GreenBiz’ 30 Under 30, a list of inspiring young leaders from all over the world.

With the idea to carry the Cradle to Cradle School of Thought and Design Concept into the middle of society, Nora Sophie Griefahn was one of the founders of C2C e.V.. Since then, she has lead the association as co executive director.

In her work for the C2C association she coordinates its political, scientific and organisational work. With ideas and initiatives, she promotes knowledge about Cradle to Cradle, a re-thinking in economy, education, politics and society.

As a speaker and in numerous essays, interviews and articles she comments on topics and issues revolving around Cradle to Cradle. She is part of scientific advisory councils, juries and European and international networks. Moreover, she assumes teaching activities at various universities and offers seminars at many institutions.
